The famous Dichterliebe cycle '' A Poet's Love '' by Schumann was composed in May 1840 on poems by Heinrich Heine. It is after several changes in its structure that the song cycle will finally appear in its final version in August 1844. The work contains 16 songs among which are "Im wunderschönen Monat Mai", "Ich will meine Seele tauchen" and the famous '' Ich grolle nicht ''. The latter was performed for the first time in public by soprano Livia Frege accompanied on the piano by Clara Schumann. The composer himself had characterized each of his songs as forming a whole and could be performed separately. This edition, published in 2010 on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of Schumann's birth, has been painstakingly made from original sources.
