Proof of an inimitable genius, the Four Impromptus of Opus 90 are among the greatest Schubert’s piano works. The first two impromptus were composed in 1827 and published the same year by the Viennese publisher Tobias Haslinger, to whom we also owe their title. The other two impromptus will appear only thirty years later in 1855 for lack of commercial success for No. 1 and 2. Today, Schubert impromptus have earned their place in the repertoire of many pianists and are regularly given in concert. This edition is based on the Breitkopf & Härtel edition of 1888.
